Familiarity Breeds Safety Cars
There are far too many unknowns ahead of this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix for me to get involved in any of the outcome markets. Who is on pole, who goes on to win and who sets the fastest lap will all become clear at various stages of the weekend.
But I wouldn’t be writing this if I didn’t think that there was a betting angle. The Albert Park circuit has demonstrated one clear trait over the years; the several walled sections attract Formula 1 cars. Those in turn attract stewards in Safety Cars.
Fifteen Safety Cars in the last ten years to be precise. Only three times since 1998 has a Safety Car failed to be deployed.
I’m unashamed to say that I recommended this bet last year when even money was available. Over the course of the race distance we saw the Safety Car three times. The best price I’ve seen so far is 5/6 with Ladbrokes. That still looks to good to leave alone.
